Boxing: Golovkin to edge out Alvarez in one of the great fights

We may have recently witnessed the glamour fight that was Conor McGregor v Floyd Mayweather, but this fight between Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez this weekend is the real boxing fight of the year.

You don’t necessarily have to be a boxing enthusiast to know that Golovkin and Alvarez are two of the most prolific and best fighters in the world today and this match-up is probably the closest thing you can get to a superfight of epic proportions as you can get.

Golovkin boasts an immaculate record of 37-0-0 and is generally viewed as the second best current fighter in the world, sitting behind Floyd Mayweather.

The Kazakhstani fighter is a serious force to be reckoned with, equipped with his arguably unmatchable knockout prowess, having sent the likes of Kell Brook, David Lemieux and Daniel Geale down and out.

Canelo, on the other hand, is 49-1-1, with his only loss coming against Floyd Mayweather. Canelo has rebounded strongly since that loss, as he has compiled a seven-fight winning streak with wins over Amir Khan, Miguel Cotto and Erislandy Lara.

There is no doubt that Canelo is going to give GGG absolutely everything that he can handle in this fight but I think that there is a real likelihood that Alvarez will be knocked out by Golovkin this weekend.
