MLS: Sporting Kansas City to add to unbeaten home record

Sporting Kansas City will host Philadelphia Union at Children’s Mercy Park in a match that features two teams who are currently in a good run of form.

Sporting KC have only let in seven goals from open play this season, the lowest figure in the league.  What’s more, they are one of just a few teams who are unbeaten at home – something that the Union will be wanting to put an end to.

Kansas City are looking to make it three wins in a row after most recently inflicting an impressive 3-0 victory over the New England Revolution.

Crucially, both sides will be lamenting the absence of some of their strongest players for the encounter, with the home side missing Matt Besler, Dom Dwyer and Graham Zusi as a result of USA international duty. National call-ups are also the reason for the Union being without Alejandro Bedoya and goalkeeper Andre Blake.

Kansas managed well without their absentees last time out to pick up a 1-1 draw against Portland, showing character to come back from 1-0 down. The draw meant that they continued their undefeated home streak to a new club record of 17 games, dating back to June of last year.

They will welcome being able to field Ike Opara who has led the back line in a such a manner that KC have only conceded 13 goals in 19 league games.

The Union will be looking to improve on their current league position of eighth but will know that they face an almighty task that will require concentration and top form right the way across the pitch.

They have not conceding in two games and, at the other end, frontman CJ Sapong could be on track to reaching the 10-goal mark for the first time, needing to score just once more to achieve this feat.

However, even if the Union manage to net against Sporting KC, I just cannot see them registering a win and, in fact, I think the home side will show their class and run away with the three points.

I’m backing Sporting Kansas City for the win at 1.58 with
