Wimbledon: Brown to test Murray’s mettle

Number one Wimbledon seed Andy Murray comes up against German-Jamaican Dustin Brown on Wednesday morning for their round of 64 match.

Brown beat Portuguese Joao Sousa to face the two-time champion Murray, and this pairing – who have only met once before – could provide an intriguing match.

Murray came out on top in their US Open encounter seven years ago but Brown dismisses any losing connotations that this spells for him as the hard surface tournament is a far cry from his favoured grass surface of Wimbledon.

The towering German has a reputation for his showman-like tennis, with spectacular shots that have a grounding in his serve-and-volley style of play.

Neither party will underestimate their opponent, considering Murray’s world number one ranking and Brown’s memorable victory over Rafael Nadal during SW19’s second round two years ago.

Brown’s comparatively unorthodox style could wrong-foot the Scotsman but ultimately the Brit is the better player and also has the crowd behind to sustain him.
