Domestic career

Brett Lee found his passion in cricket at an early age when he joined a junior team called Oak Flats Rats and worked his way up to the ranks. He then moved to Middleton then proceeded to pursue first-class cricket at 16 years old with Campbelltown. After a while, he was recruited to the Australian Under 17 and 19 team where he was able to prove himself. Lee was also given awards and a scholarship program because of his excellence in the sport.

Years later, he played in the Big Bash League (BBL) for the Sydney Sixers until 2015. During his last match in the league, he cleanly took two wickets for his team. Lee also spent several years in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

International career

Aside from domestic cricket matches, Lee became a part of Australia’s national team. It gave him a chance to showcase his skills. He usually plays as a fielder and a lower-order batter. Later in his career, Lee became one of the fastest bowlers in the world.

The Australian cricketer played the three major formats of cricket and performed well in each of them. Here’s how he performed for each one:

Test

Lee had his Test debut in December 1999 against the Indian team. The following year, he won the inaugural Donald Bradman Young Player of the Year Award at the Allan Border Medal award ceremony. Even though he suffered from several injuries during his career, Lee was still able to take 310 wickets in all the Test matches he played.

One Day International

He had his ODI debut against Pakistan in January 2000. Lee started to be recognized as one of the top ten ODI bowlers in 2003. Three years later, he was officially ranked as the top ODI bowler.

Lee also earned an ODI hat-trick in the 2003 World Cup. This made him the first ever Australian and the fourth bowler to ever achieve this feat. He took a total of 280 wickets during his ODI career.

T20I

Brett Lee had his first ever T20 match in February 2005 against New Zealand. In his first-ever tournament, he made history by claiming the first hat-trick in a Group F match. Aside from scoring a total of 28 wickets in T20 matches, he also won the Man of the Match award.

Life after retirement

Lee formally retired from international cricket in 2012 and became a part of Channel Nine’s cricket commentating team together with his former teammate Michael Slater. He also supported Slater on The Cricket Show and became a Fox Sports cricket commentator.

He was a bowling coach for Ireland and Sri Lanka teams. Aside from sports, he worked as a film actor in an Indo-Australian film titled UnIndian.

Lee devoted most of his time to supporting charitable foundations like Salvation Army, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), the Make a Wish Foundation, and several others.
