Cowboys have no need to sign Newton
The Dallas Cowboys said that they do not need to add one more QB to their ranks as there are rumours that the team will try to go for Cam Newton. The star’s release from the New England Patriots after one season was a shock that no team in the league hoped for.
The release for Cam Newton was a huge shock among many teams in the NFL. The former MVP is yet to find a new home en route to the 2021-22 season, and this is a big shift after his strong start in the Pats’ preseason games.
Dallas was one of the said teams that are seen as a landing spot for the QB. There were talks that the star could serve as a backup star to Dak Prescott in the squad, but the team knows they don’t need him for now. That is what coach Mike McCarthy thinks of Cam’s stance with the team.
‘I think he has a ton of football left’, the Dallas coach said. ‘But we're very excited about the group that we have’.
The Cowboys know that Newton has a lot to offer in his game, but the team just doesn't need him to play for them right now as they have a stacked roster heading into the 2021-22 season. They have Cooper Rush and Garrett Gilbert for the QB role.
Rush and Gilbert have seen a lot of action and that makes it easy for the team to decide not to go for Cam. Even if the star offers a lot of talent than the others, it would be wise for the team to skip a big salary for a QB like Cam.
Dallas just can’t sign a deal with a star like Cam and also get one more injury for Dak. Losing the star QB in the past season led them to tank the whole run. That leaves Cam as a free agent with Week 1 closing fast. There are many other good teams that could sign him and turn him into a lead star.
