Snead explains need for Miller in LA

Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead said it was a huge move for the team to land a huge talent in linebacker Von Miller. The GM even said the team has planned out its future and long-term future with the star en route to the coming games of the 2021-22 season.

The Rams were in need of a reliable LB who can keep up with the same pace that the team plays. Snead made a big move to sign a deal with Von and keep him for the 2021-22 season. The Rams did not have any other plans to add to the deal.

Just a day before the NFL’s trade deadline, the Rams landed Von from the Denver Broncos for two picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Broncos are set to pay $9 million of the $9.7 million that Miller is owed for the rest of the season.

Snead did not say it was a huge promise for the team. To begin the 2021-22 run, the Rams were all-in to make it to the Super Bowl, but then he did not have the same idea when he spoke of Von’s future with LA at this point.

‘We're actually looking at this from a standpoint of how soon can he help us, can he help us if we're fortunate enough to continue going and make the 2021 tournament, how can he help us there’, Snead said. ‘And then there's a long-term vision for Von as well’.

The Rams are 7-1 in the season and are locked in to make the playoffs at this point. They have built a great roster which is one of the best teams to win the Super Bowl thanks to the boost given by Matthew Stafford after moving on from the Detroit Lions.

At the age of 32, Von joins a squad that has a lot of offence but poor defence. He should be the centrepiece for the team on that end and this is why Broncos GM George Paton said the trade made a lot of sense for both sides.

‘This was not easy’, Paton said. ‘This guy's an icon. He can still rush the passer. It's a win-win -- you have to make the best decision for your franchise moving forward and we just felt this was at this time’.

Von joins a squad that has a sleeping defence, but he should be able to ignite it along with coordinator Raheem Morris. The lineup includes three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, All Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, and outside linebacker Leonard Floyd, a former first-round pick who has 6.5 sacks this season.

Adding Von only improves the Rams to a whole new level. He may be the key to solve the team’s defensive woes and they are ready to give him a fresh start as well.
