Corey Oswalt secures a big part in the Mets' regular rotation
Corey Oswalt has emerged as a solid member of the New York Mets’ rotation. Some people have argued he deserves a spot in the starting lineup too. Luis Rojas will consider all of his options but Oswalt’s excellent performances should convince him to make the move.
After the Mets loss to crosstown rivals New York Yankees on the 4th of July, Rojas was asked about how Oswalt has shown potential over the past few weeks of solid performances. The head coach believes Oswalt has proven himself to be a big part of the team. Since he’s still young, Rojas is glad his player has come into his own early on in his career.
When asked about Oswalt’s possible starter status, Rojas said, ‘He could be right now. We have different guys that we can talk about and definitely, Corey is one of them. He's got the poise. He's got some experience now. This kid has been doing this for, I think, three years now with this one, where he comes up and helps. And at this point, he's got the experience to come in’.
That kind of praise is big for young players and with Rojas’ confidence in him, Oswalt will surely be a big part of the future. In the four innings he played against the Yankees, Oswalt was the difference-maker. This will surely be a regular occurrence in the foreseeable future since he just secured a spot in the Mets squad.
If he can keep up his solid pitching, you can expect him to break out and turn into one of the best in the league. That is only a possibility now but his rapid rise is a sign that he’s capable of greater heights.
Oswalt is ready for anything. He said, ‘I'm just going to do what the team asks, whether that be starting or bullpen. feel good with where my stuff is right now and whatever the team needs, I'll fill that role’.
The 27-year-old has a good mindset which can lead him to great success. Hopefully, it will pan out well for him because he’s done everything right and he should be rewarded with proper opportunities to shine.
