How can the Padres recover from the lacklustre 2021 season?
After a productive 2020 MLB season where they ended their 13-year playoff drought, the San Diego Padres have struggled in the 2021 season. Their performance since August 2021 has been lacklustre compared to the hype before the season started.
In the past few weeks, the Padres have been in panic mode largely due to the way they've played this season. They are behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League wild-card race which is a bad spot to be in. It even reached a boiling point where the Padres’ two stars in Manny Machado and Fernando Tatís Jr. clashed on the way back to the locker room.
That was worrying because the Padres were seen as a title contender during pre-season. Machado and Tatís are their two best players and seeing them clash is a bad sign for the team moving forward. Padres manager Jayce Tingler is not fearful of what is happening because he believes that the team is a family and that was just a disagreement.
They shoulder recognize their issues better
The Padres have issues to deal with when it comes to their performance. They need to be a better team on both sides of the game because they are a stellar team on offence one day but exactly the opposite the next.
If they can find out what the problems are, they will have an easier time addressing them when they need to. This is key for any kind of development and the Padres are facing something similar.
The Padres need to improve on every aspect of their style
When you look at the Padres this season, they have been dysfunctional in almost every aspect. While they have played better as of late, the Padres’ overall campaign has been tough. They need to improve on every facet of their game because this season has been embarrassing given their status before the season started.
From players to coaches, and even to the front office, this team needs to improve. First and foremost, they should know that what they can control is what they see. They have to prepare for what’s in front of them rather than worrying too late into the future. If the Padres are more concerned about playing their style, you can expect them to improve significantly.
With Tatís as the primary star, you can expect that the Padres can keep up with the rest of the league in the long term. It will be difficult to bounce back from this but you can expect Tatís to lead this team in their time of need alongside a refreshed Machado. They will be strong but they need to step up in a big way.
