The potential breakout stars in the 2021 MLB postseason

The 2021 MLB regular season has been full of breakout stars like Shohei Ohtani and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. With the postseason fast approaching, let’s talk about some of the potential standouts in this season’s playoffs.

When the playoffs come around, most teams are looking at the postseason as a sort of restart period. Players tend to break out again as stars for their teams even when the pressure ramps up and the competition level tightens. For these players, they see the playoffs as the time when their slates are wiped clean.

Christian Yelich - Milwaukee Brewers

The past two seasons have been disappointing, to say the least for the Milwaukee Brewers’ Christian Yelich. He is a former NL MVP back in 2018 and almost a repeat winner in 2019. Unfortunately, Yelich has been underwhelming ever since that 2019 season. This 2021 playoffs will be his chance to bounce back and he is motivated to do so.

He is still a good batter but he has to be the star again if the Brewers want to win and advance in the playoffs. Yelich will return to his star status as long as he can produce better stats.

Dakota Hudson - St. Louis Cardinals

Dakota Hudson was one of the most effective relievers for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2018 and a strong starter in 2019-20. Unfortunately, Hudson underwent Tommy John surgery back in September 2020 but now, he’s on his way back to the lineup just in time for the playoffs.

He will play a huge role in their playoff efforts because this squad has struggled with their pitching. Hudson is an effective pitcher and he will be a stellar addition to the Cards after a long while away. He might look rusty but you can expect great contributions from Hudson.

DJ LeMahieu - New York Yankees

Multiple players from the New York Yankees have been disappointing in the 2021 season. DJ LeMahieu’s dropoff has been the steepest one for the Yankees because he just had back-to-back season Silver Slugger Award-winning campaigns.

In the 2021 season, DJ has looked like an average batter which is bad considering that he’s one of the biggest stars on the MLB’s most prominent roster. These playoffs will be DJ’s chance to come back stronger with a better run compared to his regular season.

Aaron Nola - Philadelphia Phillies

In the 2020 MLB season, Aaron Nola earned votes in the Cy Young Award race because he was a star pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. This season, he had a stark fall which has been reflected in his stats. Nola needs to perform better to lead the Phillies to some victories because he has been underwhelming this season.

These are just some of the stars who can break out this postseason. It will be a fun one ahead for the MLB because the players are ready to prove themselves.
