Why Chris Sale's return is highly anticipated for the Red Sox
Chris Sale is in the midst of a recovery process from Tommy John surgery. With his return imminent, the Boston Red Sox are excited to see him back in the lineup. Sale is a seven-time All-Star and if he makes a big return, Boston will be a possible title contender.
Sale has succeeded during his time with Double-A Portland so far which is a good sign that he can play better when he returns to Boston. If he can continue to play at a high level during his rehab process, he will be even better when he reaches his maximum level. Sale has a history of elbow injuries but it looks like this one has recovered well and he will be ready to return to Boston in August.
Fellow Red Sox pitcher Matt Barnes talked about how Sale is a big part of the team. The 31-year-old said, ‘Sale’s working his ass off. He really is. I have no doubt in my mind that when he comes back, he’s going to be Chris Sale. And any time you can get a guy like that on a team that’s making a push, it’s completely invaluable. It’s incredible’.
Will the Red Sox get better with Sale?
Sale is a top-tier talent who can carry a team to multiple victories. The starting rotation has done well without him but they will get even better with Sale in the squad. The 32-year-old has a history of playing at an elite level with both the Chicago White Sox and Red Sox. He was even a part of the Red Sox’s World Series-winning squad which continues to loom over their recent campaigns.
While Mookie Betts and David Price left the team in a trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Sale is one of the players who remained with the team since the front office still sees him as one of their building blocks.
The team is ready for Sale to come back so he can lead the team again to a potential playoff run en route to the World Series. It will be difficult to do but Sale has the skills to do so.
Boston is good and they can win it all this year
Barnes believes that getting Sale back in the lineup can lift them over the edge. He said, ‘You’re talking about getting a guy who’s one of the best pitchers in baseball when he’s healthy and on the field. So we get Chris Sale back for nothing because we already have him. We have a very good team as is’.
At the moment, the Red Sox hold the top spot in the American League East and they have the potential to go on another run. If Sale comes back at full strength, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs.
