Why Kershaw's return to the LA Dodgers squad is monumental
For the first time in a few months, Clayton Kershaw is back and pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The left-hander returned after he struggled with forearm tightness which was huge for the team since they are even deeper than before.
During the time that he was injured, the Dodgers acquired Max Scherzer and Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals. It also helps that Walker Buehler and Julio Urías have turned into stars for the season with their career-high statistics across the board. Both Corey Seager and Mookie Betts also chip in with their contributions since both players also struggled with injuries.
After two long months, Kershaw came back against the Arizona Diamondbacks on the 13th of September. He only allowed one run on four hits over four innings in LA’s 5-1 victory. It narrowed down the Dodgers’ road to the playoffs as they look to repeat as World Series champs. They were excellent in the 2020 season but now, they’re finally rounding into form with the return of their best players.
Kershaw’s return is huge for the Dodgers’ title hopes
As he re-joined the team, Kershaw makes the Dodgers a stronger team than before. With the trade moving Scherzer and Turner to the club, you can expect them to be a stronger title contender this season. It will be a tough task to repeat as champs but a healthy Kershaw is massive for the team.
Kershaw talked about his return to the squad. He said, ‘For me to be able to be a part of it is huge. I will never take that for granted ever, to be in a playoff race and to be a part of it. It’s a good one right now. Giants aren’t losing, so they’re not making it easy on us. It’s going to be fun. You can do all the bullpens, all the rehabs, all the working out you want, but for whatever reason pitching in a big-league game is just different. I’m glad I got this first one behind me and I’ll have a few more that, hopefully, I can contribute and we can win this thing’.
The teammates believe Kershaw is the key to the title
Kershaw admitted that he didn’t know that his availability was a struggle to deal with. It was a personal battle but his teammates were always there to support him through thick and thin.
You can see that he means a lot to his teammates which third baseman Justin Turner wanted to highlight. Justin said that Kershaw is the team’s main guy and how they’re all excited to see him back.
It will be difficult to believe that the Dodgers won’t improve as a result of his return. He has already played well since he came back and finding consistency won’t be a problem with such a loaded squad like the Dodgers.
