Isiah Thomas Gives Praise to Ja Morant as the Next Star Guard

Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas has talked about the future of point guards in the NBA. He cites Ja Morant as the star guard of the next generation.

At the moment, Morant is the favourite to run away with the Rookie of the Year award. His statistics are already on par with the elite point guards in the league. He has posted 17.6 and 6.9 assists per game in his rookie season. Even if he has been performing individually, his biggest achievement is leading his team to the eighth seed in the Western Conference.

He is in the conversation to be one of the leaders of the point guard race in the future because he has every necessary quality. He has the vision and playmaking down but he also has the scoring ability and the elite athleticism that can give him advantages in scoring in the paint and on the defensive end.

Thomas was one of the people who regards Morant as the pioneer of the next generation of point guards. He said, ‘I think in Ja we are watching the next generation of the great point guards that have been coming through our league. You have that group of Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, John Wall and so forth, but for the younger generation of point guards, I think Ja – who is projected to win the 2019-20 Rookie of the Year award – is going to be leading that evolution of great point guard play’.

This is one of the best compliments that any player can receive because Thomas is one of the best players in the history of the game. He was a 12-time All-Star and he managed to win two straight NBA titles in the golden era of the league.

He is also considered to be one of the top three players who have played the point guard position so his opinion matters a lot. In just his first season, Morant has already received the praise that he will likely receive for the foreseeable future with the way that he is playing.
