Melo explodes in win for the Lakers

Carmelo Anthony came through for the Los Angeles Lakers in a game where they needed more firepower in their games. The star gave his best to support the LA squad and pull off a close win against the Memphis Grizzlies to get their first win in the 2021-22 season.

Melo dropped a team-high of 28 points and even made history at the same time. He moved to the ninth place on the NBA’s career scoring list thanks to his scoring burst. At the age of 37, Melo’s big game was the best they had ever seen from him since moving to the squad.

Anthony Davis added 22 points and four blocks while LeBron James chipped in 19 points. The Lakers beat Ja Morant’s 40-point game and scored a 121-118 win. There was a lot of drama in the final minute when Ja had a chance to tie the game but missed a foul shot that could have given them a chance at a win or extra time.

Melo now has 27,423 points in his career. He blew past Moses Malone at 27,409 and is set to chase Shaquille O’Neal in the eighth spot for scoring with 28,596 points. The star said it was a huge feat for him and wants to add more to his tally in the 2021-22 season.

‘I keep saying it’s an honor and blessing to be on that list and pass Moses (Malone) for what he did for the game of basketball’, the LA star said. ‘It’s hard to put it into words. That I’m still here and doing it, that’s what I’m excited about, that’ I’m here in year 19 and doing what I’m able to do’.

The Lakers snapped a two-game skid and handed Memphis their first loss after starting with back to back wins in the 2021-22 season. Ja shot 13 for 21 and made five threes. He also had 10 dimes to lead the way for the Grizzlies but could not seal the win for the team.

Melo’s hot run should give the Lakers a big chance in the coming games. This should keep the team stable as they try to find a way to make their squad work with all stars firing well.
