Real Madrid Gives Contract Extension to Jaycee Carroll
Jaycee Carroll has been a constant presence for Real Madrid for the past decade. He is one of their most reliable players so they rewarded him with an extension.
Carroll has never been the consistent starter for Madrid ever since he joined in 2011 but he was always a reliable backup off the bench. He provided good scoring and extremely efficient shooting from the field. He always managed to average above 47% from the field and his three-point accuracy was always in the high 40s.
He has been a part of multiple championship squads in both the EuroLeague and the Spanish League. He is closing in on a decade with the team because of his reliability and his leadership.
At 37 years of age, he is nearing the end of his career and he provides experience and the maturity that is required from guards. The position is usually situated at the forefront of everything and having a good leader up top is the best thing for teams.
Carroll has played 234 games in the EuroLeague, this is good for third all-time for an American player. He trails only Kyle Hines who played 281 games and James Gist who had 246 appearances in the second biggest basketball league in the world. He now holds the record for most appearances for a foreign player in Madrid’s history in basketball.
It is not surprising that Madrid re-signed him. He is one of their main leaders alongside team captain Felipe Reyes. He is also the third-most tenured player in the lineup after Reyes who has been in the team since 2004 and star point guard Sergio Llull who has been there since 2007.
Carroll is confident that the team will still experience success in the near future and he is glad that he is a part of it. He said, ‘I am willing to win more titles and play at the highest level. I don't know if I changed a lot but I have more experience after all these years, more confidence during the games and in the important moments. We gained experience by playing finals and winning titles’.
