Real Madrid Poised For Title Run

The defending champions seemed poised for another title run as the Liga ACB season is underway. Real Madrid stands at the top of the league in a tie with Burgos. Both teams remain undefeated in their last four games.

In 60 years of history of the Spanish basketball league, only seven clubs were successful in winning the title. Real Madrid has won the most championships in the history of the league. They have amassed a total of 35 championships, including 12 runner-ups. The team has won back-to-back titles since 2018.

Since Coach Pablo Laso’s insertion to the team, they have won five titles in nine years. These title wins include two back-to-backs in 2015 and 2016 and another in 2018 and 2019. They have found continuous success in his leadership.

Their first championship with Laso was a 3-2 series victory over Barcelona. The series was a tight one as no team scored more than 90 points in all five games. Madrid was able to break the tie in the last game at their home floor when they defeated Barcelona in the fourth to secure a 79-71 win.

Their back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016 were also against Barcelona, but the latter won only a single game in the two series combined. Sergio Llull led his team in the finals so as to secure two consecutive championships.

Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic was instrumental in Real Madrid’s 2018 championship in the EuroLeague. The team’s season was guided by the young guard who was 19 at that time. The team won its tenth title led by the EuroLeague MVP.

Looking forward into the season, Real Madrid has been efficient in the early games. The team has found a consistent scorer in Sergio Llull, who has been on a roll since their first game.

Jaycee Carroll led his team to their first victory against Divina in the season opener. Madrid used a third-quarter burst to lead by double digits. They outscored Divina 24-13 and stayed in the lead for the rest of the game. Carroll scored 17 points in 23 minutes of action. Real Madrid finished the game in impressive fashion with an 88-69 victory.

The team made another impressive win in a 97-69 victory over Murcia. This time it was Sergio Llull who pushed the team with his 17 points, though there were five other players in double figures. They used a 30-point first quarter to pick up the pace for the rest of the game. They were able to keep the pressure as they forced Murcia on a 7/24 shooting from three.

7-foot-3 centre Edy Tavares came up with an excellent performance as he grabbed 12 boards and eight points as Real Madrid was able to push for an 89-64 victory over the Montakit. That win marks their fourth straight this season. Carroll scored 15 points to lift his team in a rout of the Montakit.

The team is in the pace for another great season. Their consistency has been a big factor in winning their last games. They stand strong and are a big offensive juggernaut that dominates games.

Considering that the team continues to push for a consistent finish in their games, there is a huge possibility that the team will be going for another title run as they are set to get their three-peat in the Liga Endesa this season.
