Why karrigan should be called a top leader in pro CS:GO

When people talk about the top in-game leaders in CS:GO, people name the usual suspects like Gabriel ‘FalleN’ Toledo and Lukas ‘gla1ve’ Rossander. They fail to mention one of the best to ever do it, in Finn ‘karrigan’ Andersen.

People do not remember that karrigan was actually the captain of the Astralis team back in the days they were known as Team SoloMid. They competed with the likes of the old school Ninjas in Pyjamas and Fnatic squads.

They were consistently making tournaments and had some good results but they never won the biggest tourneys. The major continued to elude them in the transition to Astralis which led them to change a lot about the team. Karrigan was removed from the squad in favour of gla1ve which turned out to be the best decision they made.

This was because they kept winning majors with gla1ve at the helm. This left people to write off karrigan and his contributions to the team because they got significantly better when he exited the squad. What people do not usually notice is that karrigan was the one that built the squad from the ground-up and gla1ve just inherited the lineup.

Of course, you can still credit the remaining players and gla1ve’s leadership but karrigan was still a big part of how they won the majors. He gave them the experience and strategies in the past which led to their prominence.

After he left Astralis, he joined up with FaZe Clan in 2016 and continued to have good success. The major still eluded him but he was the shot-caller for one of the best teams in the world. It did not pan out well because he would leave FaZe in 2018. He proceeded to join mousesports where he continues to play for today.

As an individual player, karrigan is not the most talented player but he has a great personality to play with. He motivates people well and he knows the right timing and dynamics when it comes to his strategies. The only problem is that sometimes, his strategies tend to be an all-in move which cripples the team’s chances if it blows up in their face.

He can play the stationary AWPer role which can be helpful especially during the times they play the Counter-Terrorists’ side. Karrigan has innovated a lot of strategies in his time with all of his teams but they have not won a major.

Karrigan can still be considered to be among the greatest IGLs in the scene but he needs to win a major. What sets leaders like FalleN, gla1ve, and Danylo ‘Zeus’ Teslenko apart is that they are people who all won majors due to their great strategies and poise under pressure.
