Asif says Kohli needs more time to match Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar made history as one of the best cricket players in the game, and his prowess had to be the most impressive form fans have ever seen. Mohammad Asif says Virat Kohli will have a tough time matching that level in his current pace.

Former Pakistan star and pacer Mohammad Asif explains why the debate for the ‘greatest of all time’ is a long stretch for Kohli if he continues to play at a lowly pace compared to his hot start. Asif believes that while lines are drawn between Sachin and Kohli, the most complete batter will go down as the best in the history of cricket.

For starters, Sachin ruled for a long time in his era as he showed how he owned the field and even tallied 100 centuries in all formats. That was the big feat that saw him rise as one of the best stars in all formats back then.

Kohli, on the other hand, is seen as the best batter of the modern era. His grit and leadership made him a strong star and his long chases were seen at the same level as Sachin’s feats. This earned him the praise of many players and was unbeaten in his claim in batting.

However, Asif sees one factor that makes a fine line between the two stars at this point. The former Shaheens star feels that Kohli has done well to be fit, but he is far from the legendary style of play that Sachin was known for over the years.

‘Kohli is a bottom-hand player. He is doing well because of his fitness and it is supporting him. The moment he will face a decline, I don’t think Kohli can make a comeback’, the former star said. ‘People say Kohli is better than Tendulkar. I say no. Virat does not even come close to Sachin. This is my opinion’.

Kohli now has 70 international centuries to his name but is cutting close on other formats to that of Sachin’s. While the centuries aren’t the only way to measure a star’s greatness, Asif knows that it would be a clear factor for one to be the best cricket player.
