India wins big in 1st T20I over Sri Lanka
India steals a huge win in the 1st T20I versus Sri Lanka as the Men in Blue take the match away by 38 runs. The team now has to get their heads in the game for the rest of the series. This is a chance to win big for India in the next few weeks.
After a 2-1 win in the ODI series, India carried off the same pace and cruised past the Lankans as they put up the right play to beat them in the T20Is. The 38-run win in Colombo saw India put up the bats first and found their groove to get a huge lead in the game right away.
Suryakumar Yadav had a 34-ball 50 and Shikhar Dhawan had 46 in 36 balls, posting 164/5 in what looked like a low total for them to have in the first place.
Dhawan had a lot of praise for his team and Yadav’s effort was the biggest one he saw that played a huge role in the win.
‘I thought we were 10-15 runs short. I feel we played quite well after losing early wickets. It was about one or two boundaries, we knew we could get going’, Dhawan said. ‘He (Yadav) is a great player and we enjoy watching him bat. He took the pressure from me and the way he plays calculated shots was amazing to watch. They were playing well, we knew our spinners will do the job on that wicket’.
The bowlers took the rest of the game on their hands and proved that they can keep on winning. There were great runs for India in this win and the team relied on the likes of Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson to push the lead and keep Sri Lanka away from the score as well.
Sri Lanka had one of their worst answers in years. The target was far behind the range for them to get a collapse and cross the line. At the 90/3 in the 13th over, the team was still able to close in on the score but it did not take long for the Men in Blue to take them down with 126 all out.
