Matthews hints at a possible return for Sri Lanka

Angelo Matthews has made himself available for selection, and this is a huge promise that Sri Lanka can expect from him in the coming games. Most fans want him to get a chance at getting back into the games and it could help the squad win in the T20 World Cup.

Back in July, the star all-rounder said that he was close to the end of his career, and he even turned down a deal offered by Sri Lanka Cricket. That was still seen as a smart move for him since he had to get a pay cut of around $50,000.

The star had mixed emotions about the way SLC has treated him over the years. Other senior Sri Lanka stars have experienced the same, and this led to Matthews skipping the ODI and T20I series in July. He pulled out due to personal reasons, but it was later said that he was not happy with the management at this point.

Heading into the T20 World Cup, Matthews said he is ready to play and join the Sri Lanka fold again. There is yet to be a final lineup for the team and this means that there is still a chance for Matthews to join the team all the way to the TWC.

Should Matthews make it to the final lineup, this would be better for the SL squad since it can give them a boost in their games. They need a star like him to lead the way for their games. Who knows, maybe they can beat the odds and claim the title as well.

Matthews has been a key player for the Lankan team in all formats of the game. He made his debut back in 2008 and he played in 90 Tests, 218 ODIs, and 78 T20Is. He has notched a total of 13,219 runs to go with 14 centuries and 81 half-centuries.

Sri Lanka’s lead star should be a great boost for their campaign in the contest, and this will give them a better chance of winning. This could even be his final push if he wants to retire.
