Moeen Ali has decided to leave the England bubble to fly home

Moeen Ali has opted to miss the final two Tests against India and leave the England bubble. WIth that, Dom Bess has returned to the England squad. The team sent Ali home so that he can recover properly.

As a man who suffered from a bout with COVID-19, it is understandable that he is stepping away from the game for a while. However, it was the team that decided to send him home as 20 days alone in his room was damaging to him mentally.

England captain Joe Root has echoed the same sentiments. The skipper said, ‘Moeen has chosen to go home. He obviously feels he wants to be with his family and we have to respect that. It's been a tough tour for him - dealing with COVID, being in his room for such a long period of time’.

Hopefully, Ali can settle back home as he had a tough time. Even if cricket is his job, it should still be fair for Ali to have some rest and peace of mind with his family.

With his exit, there are people who are talking about Ali and a possible retirement from the game. This was quickly shot down by many of his teammates. Root was the most vocal of them all as he believes that Ali would not just step away from the game after having an excellent game recently.

Root said, ‘I thought he got better as the game went on and showed everyone that he has the skills to perform at this level. He is not taking a further part out here but I don't see why that closes the door on him entirely’.

It will be interesting to see when Ali can come back to the team as he is still a vital part of the squad. At the same time, there are other players who are also looking to make an impact. Bess is the one who will step into Ali’s role which was a spot that he wanted after being left out of the squad in the second Test against India.
