Zai gets a fresh start by joining Team Liquid's Dota squad

After three successful years with Team Secret, Ludwig ‘zai’ Wåhlberg has decided to leave the team. He will now join Team Liquid in an unannounced role. It is rumoured that zai wants to return to his old position four role which might force Tommy ‘Taiga’ Le out of the Liquid squad.

In his three years with Secret, zai was arguably the best offlaner in the Dota Pro Circuit. He had a wide hero pool that helped Secret try out different strategies. It worked for the Secret squad because he was the player they built their tactics around. Clement ‘Puppey’ Ivanov loved playing with zai because Secret was a better team when they weren’t restricted.

Now that he’s with TL, zai’s role is still unclear. If he still plays in the offlane, Samuel ‘Boxi’ Svahn will be the player who is left out of the Liquid squad. It will be interesting to see who he replaces because this Liquid squad has been together since 2017. Zai’s arrival will shake this team up as they need to bounce back after not making it to The International 10.

A sad ending to a strong stint at Secret

Zai decided to step down from Secret after TI10. As the event ended, most people thought Secret would stick together but zai wanted a fresh start.

Puppey was thankful for his now-former teammate’s contribution. The Secret captain said, ‘It is a sad moment, but I have to accept that all good things come to an end. I have nothing but love for this man, not only is he an amazing and persistent teammate, he is also a great friend. No matter where you go and what you do, I am sure you’ll find success. I wish you nothing but the best’.

Zai raises Liquid’s ceiling

With zai, he brings a new dynamic to the Liquid squad. They have been together for almost four years now and the team needed changes. Whether it’s Boxi or Taiga leaving, zai has a résumé that trumps both of them. Zai is fresh off a third-place finish at TI10 and he will surely carry the lessons learned in the event to the other Liquid players.

This includes team captain and drafter Aydin ‘iNSaNiA’ Sarkohi who will benefit from a special player like zai. He will have better tactics now because zai can play any hero. They will be stronger in every aspect of the game because the rest of the squad will be empowered with zai in the squad.

You can expect Michael ‘miCKe’ Vu and Maximilian ‘qojqva’ Bröcker to benefit as well because they will have more space to play. Boxi and Taiga both thrived when they also farmed up resources but with zai, the two core players can have more space to farm up which leads to a stronger late-game phase.
