Anders Lee ready to return for Islanders in 2022
Anders Lee missed a lot of action in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He was missed by his team as they fell short in the semis - a win away from the Final. The captain now hopes to make the most of the offseason and get ready for a huge run in 2022 and try for the Final once more.
Lee’s absence in the semis may have been one of the big reasons why New York failed to make it past Tampa Bay for the third time in a row. The captain could have given them a morale boost along with a punch on their power plays.
The captain missed the last two months of the 2021 run and the whole playoffs. He took a hit in their March 11 game against the New Jersey Devils and had a knee injury. He scored a total of 19 points with 12 goals and seven dimes in just 27 games for the Islanders.
Lee is keen to get back to the team right away. The star said he is recovering well so far, so that should be a piece of good news for all fans out there.
‘I'm on track’, the captain said. ‘I was able to do a lot of really good things in the last 13, 14 weeks since surgery here. We pushed it pretty good and got as far as we could. I'm looking forward to continuing on that path and being ready for camp’.
New York’s run ended in a 1-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7. The team is yet to break their skid to Tampa Bay.
Lee also noted that it is tough to deal with this kind of loss. They have been at the same pace for years, but there is yet to be a bigger result so far. They have landed a few talents but they are yet to get to the final - it is always Tampa Bay that has been on their way.
The captain’s return in 2022 might be the key to their huge run. Perhaps it is time for Lee to make sure that New York makes it past the semis.
