Draisaitl says he's focused on winning

As the Edmonton Oilers continue to cruise for wins, star Leon Draisaitl and the rest of the gang are getting hot in their games. While success continues, the star and former MVP knows that they are eager to push themselves to the limit and focus on winning games.

Leon is leading the NHL in goals and points for the Oilers six weeks into the season, but there is no sign of him being bothered in their games as he continues to look at the bigger picture. The Oilers are gunning for a league title after so many years of short runs.

Co-star Connor McDavid led the league in points back in the 2020-21 season with 105 off 33 goals and 72 dimes while playing 56 games. Leon, on the other hand, topped the charts when he scored 110 with 43 goals and 67 dimes in just 71 games. Along with the Art Ross Trophy, the duo has also won the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award in their respective runs.

Personal feats were some of their keys to success, but none of those led to league titles and so on. This is why Leon and the rest of the team are focused on winning big games down the stretch.

‘We're all here to win’, Leon said. ‘Individual stats, individual awards, I've been there, I've done that. I'm very proud of it, but that's not why I'm here. And that's not why Connor McDavid is here. That's why nobody's here. We all want to win’.

In 17 games this season, Leon has scored 35 points off 18 goals and 17 dimes. Connor, on the other hand, has 32 points coming from 12 goals and 20 dimes. The Oilers have been winning and are close to leading the league so far.

‘We've got a great group and the start is great for me personally, for us as a group, but just looking to continue to keep the confidence’, Leon said. ‘Help the team win, do the little things right and just continue to get better and win’.

Perhaps the biggest key was Leon’s changing game that has helped the Oilers well. Leon knows they need to focus, and they are doing it well.
