Henrik Lundqvist’s job with the Rangers after his retirement
Despite his departure from the New York Rangers, Henrik Lundqvist still has a connection with the club. He has confirmed that he has a job waiting for him within the team after he retires from professional ice hockey.
Lundqvist is one of the most prolific goaltender in modern NHL history. He created a lasting legacy with the Rangers playing 15 seasons for the club. He is considered as a butterfly style goalie which is an unorthodox way to play the game because it looks too aggressive for other people. However, he proved that through solid positioning, he can maximize his presence.
Because of this, the Rangers and their fans have a special connection with the goaltender. He left the club in October 2020 to join the Washington Capitals on a one-year contract. He is already 38 years of age which means that he is nearing the end of his career. As a result, the Rangers have reached out to him to offer a job for his post-playing career.
After taking the chance on him in the seventh round of the 2000 NHL Draft, the Rangers are still giving him opportunities two decades later. Lundqvist is innately connected to the club as they have created so many moments together.
Lundqvist has opened up about the future that he has with the Rangers after he decides to retire from ice hockey. He said, ‘It will be the role they want it to be. I don’t know if the role will be small or if there will be something more. It is further ahead. It’s all about timing. It’s just not now. I feel that I will somehow be connected to Rangers forever after so many years and all the people I got to know in the club, from the owner on down’.
Of course, his career is not over just yet and he has an exciting campaign coming up. He is playing for the Capitals who also have Alex Ovechkin in the lineup which means that they can really compete with any team since they have two top-class players with him and Lundqvist.
