Ketlen Vieira believes her skill set should be respected more
Ketlen Vieira just pulled off a strong win over the resurgent Miesha Tate. After the fight, Vieira wants more players to respect her skills in the Octagon. Ketlen is ranked as the 8th best female bantamweight in the world but she believes she deserves more respect and recognition.
Before the fight, Tate was seen as the favourite because of her momentum from the TKO win against Marion Reneau. This left Ketlen in the background even if she was the other half of the main event. Tate was looking to earn a shot at Amanda Nunes’ title but now, she has to go back to the drawing board.
Ketlen was amazing during the match as she won by unanimous decision. The fight was close for most of the five rounds but her performance and consistency were enough to lead her to a strong decision win. She managed to land big strikes with many combinations to secure points and the victory over the legendary Tate.
Beating Tate was a dream achievement
Ketlen is always a respectful fighter and she always knows the weight of every bout. In the match against Tate, Ketlen knew that she was fighting one of the best female fighters of all time. Even so, the Brazilian was not letting up as she mounted pressure on Tate as the fight went on. This was a resurgent performance for Ketlen since she was coming off a loss to Yana Kunitskaya back in February 2021.
Before the fight, Ketlen was showing caution for the Tate fight because she did not want to disrespect a legend and she knew what Tate was capable of.
In her post-fight presser, Ketlen said, ‘I was extremely cautious. I’m still very bitter about my last fight. I really believe I won. The judges didn’t. So I came here [extremely] cautious, I realize that, but I’m still very happy with my performance. The emotions have nothing to do with fighting Miesha Tate, I just was hesitant because I didn’t want to lose again. I was very cautious not to make a mistake and the fight like I did last time’.
Ketlen has earned the respect of the MMA scene
Tate is a legendary figure in the women’s MMA scene. A victory over her should always be a meaningful one and Ketlen’s was important. She is already one of the best fighters in her division but she didn’t get the recognition that she deserved.
Ketlen earned the distinction of a top fighter in her weight class. She also wants everyone to know that she is here to stay and she’s looking for the biggest challenges possible including a future title fight.
After the fight, Ketlen was vocal about how she wanted the rest of the scene to respect her. She said, ‘That's what I'm here for, I'm here to fight the best. Respect my skills. I've always dreamed about being in the main event against a legend. I've always dreamed about being in the main event against a legend’.
It was a tough win against Tate but Ketlen proved that she deserves to be in that position. Tate is taking it in stride because she knows the road back to the top is difficult and has many bumps. Ketlen is on that journey at the moment and she’s primed for a shot at Nunes.
