Bayern Player Makes Strong Claim on Team's Chances Against Leipzig
With Bayern definitely on its way to chase down Bundesliga's top spot, Leon Goretzka makes a bold claim on how the remainder of the season will turn out for the current league leaders in Leipzig.
Leipzig sits on the top spot of the Bundesliga after a successful finish to 2019, while Goretzka's side Bayern Munich is currently sitting on the third spot. They are just four points behind for the Bundesliga's top spot.
Goretzka remains confident that his team can bounce back and regain hold of the top spot.
'The season is still very long and there are still a lot of points to be awarded', he said in an interview from Bayern’s winter training camp. 'I don't think Leipzig (will) win every game in the second half of the season. We have to get our points and do our job. I think it's realistic that we can do it'.
Bayern is set to return for more Bundesliga action this coming January 19th, and will play against Hertha Berlin to start the second half of the season. The team is hoping that they could push for continuous success and avoid the same errors they had in the first half of the season.
The team still has a lot of work to do. They still have last-16 ties to deal with in the DFB Cup, and the UEFA Champions League is set to come into play by February.
Goretzka is confident enough that the team can claim a win in their upcoming game against Chelsea. The team is hoping to win its first Champions League title since their big win over Borussia Dortmund back in the 2013 final.
'We want to go further than last year, when we immediately got the winner in the round of 16', Goretzka looked back on last year’s exit at the same stage to then-winners Liverpool. 'I was very happy with the draw. Chelsea are attractive opponents. We're confident that we can do it'.
Coach Hansi Flick seems to agree with Goretzka's claims. The team has worked well on its training camp and is eager to begin the second half of the season as they aim to retake the lead in the Bundesliga.
