Cristiano Ronaldo ramps up Lionel Messi rivalry
Cristiano Ronaldo has made clear his intent to win more Ballon d'Or trophies than Lionel Messi by the time he retires.
Juventus striker Ronaldo has won the world player of the year award five times, as has Barcelona forward Messi, while both players are considered to be the best the world has ever seen.
Speaking to Piers Morgan on ITV, Ronaldo admits he won’t be content until he has won more awards than Messi, despite the fact the two players have a great respect for each other.
Ronaldo said: “I would love it, and I think I deserve it. Messi is a fantastic guy, a fantastic player. He's in the history of football - but I think I have to have six or seven or eight to be above him.
“My relationship with him is, we are not friends, but we have shared this stage for 15 years.
“I have a good relationship with him and I know that he has pushed me to be a better player and I have pushed him to be a better player as well,” he added.
