England scores big win over Germany, 2-0
England came up with a 2-0 clean sheet win to beat one of the giants in the Euro tourney. The Three Lions just took down Germany and are now all set for the next round with this huge win. It seems the team has found its groove after some early struggles in the contest.
Gareth Southgate’s boys have shaken off their woes in the contest and have now set their eyes on the prize. This win proves the Three Lions are still one of the best sides to win in the tourney. A win in the last 16 over Germany saw them close out Joachim Low’s time as the boss for the country.
The last time England made it to the semis of any World Cup was in 2018 - but they did it without beating some of the best sides in the contest and even fell short in extra time to Croatia. The Three Lions have progressed over the years, and it looks like they are set for more.
England was yet to win a Euro tourney knockout game in 90 minutes before this one. Southgate was pleased to see this young squad taking on the big task set on them. He was right to put his faith in the boys.
Goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane took the victory for England. Germany had no answer in the game as the stellar defence for the Three Lions sealed the deal at this point in time.
England had five shots in total, and four of those nearly found the bottom of the net. The team was held to just 45% with the ball but made 445 passes to tally 83% accuracy. Germany, on the other hand, was able to take nine shots and yet only three were on target. They held the ball for 55% and made 528 passes for 83% accuracy as well.
The pressure was on England to win and make sure they get to the next round, but they did it without much hassle as they scored a clean sheet. Southgate knew it was a tall order to beat a team such as Germany.
‘We're playing a team with four World Cup winners, a manager whose had an incredible career’, Southgate said. ‘I didn't have the chance to congratulate him earlier because I know tonight will be a difficult night - but he's had an incredible career with Germany and I have huge respect for what he's done’.
No country has won more than three Euro titles Germany took home in 1972, 1980, and 1996. England was beaten by Germany in 1970, 1990, 1996, and 2010. This win was a huge success for the Three Lions.
This win puts them into the next round, and England will be ready to step up in the big moments of the games to come.
