EPL 2022/23 Week 3 Preview: The biggest matches to watch

Round 3

Entire Season Preview

There’s no doubt that the 2022-23 season of the EPL is picking up pace, and quickly so. We’re anticipating another weekend of big goals, dramatic saves, and smooth gameplay. There are lots of games that’ll be worth betting on.

The second week of the Prem campaign was a significant time for the league because it had two of the biggest storylines. The most prominent story was Manchester United’s embarrassing 0-4 defeat to Brentford, and the second was Gabriel Jesus’ phenomenal home debut for Arsenal in their 4-2 victory over Leicester City.

After some of the biggest results of the second week, everyone is looking forward to a massive third match week. Here are some of the biggest matches coming this weekend:

Manchester United vs Liverpool

The rivalry between these clubs has existed for more than a century since their first match in the 1890s. These two teams are in different stages now because Man United is in disarray while Liverpool is one of the two biggest contenders for the Premier League title.

Man United is fresh off their embarrassing losses to both Brighton and Brentford. They do not look like the classic United squad that people are familiar with because they look disjointed on offence, and their defence has been shambolic.

Bet on future Premier League matches

The Liverpool lineup has been together for a long time, so they are in sync when they’re on the pitch. They just had a disappointing draw against Crystal Palace with Darwin Nuñez getting a red card, but this squad still has experienced talent all over the first team.

A vital bounce-back opportunity for Man United

The past two weeks have been a nightmare for new United manager Erik ten Hag. He started his stint with two losses, making this match against their rivals an important game for him and the team to redeem themselves.

They need to perform on a pitch-perfect level to pull off an upset, starting with their offence like Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes leading the way. Harry Maguire and David de Gea have to play better on defence because their performance was dismal in the first two games.

With the odds favouring Liverpool, Man Utd will have a tough task ahead of them as they need to overcome their underdog status.

Arsenal vs Bournemouth

After a solid start to the 2022-23 campaign, Arsenal is on cloud nine. Their two biggest signings of the season, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus, have been outstanding for the club. Jesus scored a brace against Leicester on his debut in front of the Emirates Stadium and the Arsenal fan base.

On the other hand, Bournemouth already has a win under their belt as they split the first two weeks of the season with one win against Aston Villa and a loss against defending champions Manchester City.

Arsenal wants to continue their momentum

The first two weeks of the season have been phenomenal for Arsenal, and they need to continue their good streak in this match. While Bournemouth already has a win in their record, it will be hard to battle against Arsenal, especially since Jesus will play alongside the unassailable trio of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and team captain Martin Ødegaard.

Bournemouth will be banking on Kieffer Moore to score another goal, but that will be a big challenge since Arsenal’s defence has grown into one of the best the Premier League offers this season.

Arsenal is the odds-on favourite which makes this match exciting because they are ready to showcase their talents again, especially with Jesus leading the way.

Southampton vs Leicester City

Two teams with identical records, Southampton and Leicester City, both have one point to start their respective campaigns. They both have draws to their record but their losses are embarrassing results. Southampton lost to Tottenham Hotspur four goals to one while the Foxes were drubbed by the streaking Arsenal, four goals to two.

Both teams want to get their first win

The Saints and Foxes had high hopes for this campaign and having a bad start to the season is a big hurdle. However, this matchup is a tough call. The Foxes will be the favourites because of the quality of their squad but Southampton has the momentum from their promising performance against Leeds United.

Based on the odds, the Foxes are favoured but this might be closer than everyone thinks because the Saints are always plucky underdogs.

Chelsea vs Leeds United

As one of the top teams of the past few years, Chelsea is a formidable contender due to their system under Thomas Tuchel and a stacked lineup with Champions League experience. That is not the case for their Matchweek 3 opponents in Leeds United.

With Jesse Marsch at the helm, Leeds has made some excellent signings to fit the system that the new manager implemented. Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams are some of those huge signings who are familiar with Marsch’s system from previous clubs. They can bring solid energy to the Leeds lineup as they play to score goals with pinpoint passes and capitalising on the set pieces.

The potential top match of the weekend

While this might look like a modest match on the schedule, this has the potential to be the best game of the third matchweek. They have some big-time talents, including Rodrigo Moreno, who already has three goals to his name at the start of the season. He will be the man to watch for most fans because he always brings out the best in him to carry Leeds.

On the other hand, Chelsea has made considerable changes to the lineup but remains a strong contender. From the past few years’ lineups, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount are huge threats on offence alongside new star Raheem Sterling.

Chelsea is the overwhelming favourites but Leeds can make it exciting based on their solid offensive style. They will look to challenge the tough Chelsea squad, especially on the defensive end.

Chelsea vs Leeds United head-to-head odds

West Ham United vs Brighton

West Ham started their season on a wrong note because defending champions Man City beat them in the first Matchweek and Nottingham Forest beat them in their second game.

On the other hand, Brighton is unbeaten after two weeks with a massive 2-1 win over Man United, with the second match being a goalless draw against Newcastle United where Solly March and Adam Lallana were standouts, but Nick Pope was imperious in goal.

West Ham needs to learn from the past two matches

In their first two matches, the Hammers have not scored a goal. They have had multiple blunders which is why Brighton is seen as the favourites heading into the match. If you are looking for a player to watch in this game, Michail Antonio possesses the ability to score for his team and help them bounce back since he can score goals while moving off the ball.

West Ham is the slim favourite because Brighton has performed well too. It will be a tough decision for bettors which makes this such an exciting game to watch.
