Getafe vs Sevilla Preview
The 3rd place Getafe faces the 5th place Sevilla in what promises to be a great match.
The match will be played in Getafe’s home turf, the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. The Azulones are looking to bounce back from 2-1 loss to Barcelona at Camp Nou on the 15th of February. The club was on a 4-match-winning streak in La Liga play before their loss over the weekend. They are 3rd in the standings just below perennial title contenders, Real Madrid and Barcelona, trailing by 10 points.
Getafe’s defence has been the main talking point when it comes to the club. In particular, Djene Dakonam is the anchor of Getafe’s hard-nosed defence alongside team captain Damian Suarez. Dakonam has become a prominent fixture in the Azulones’ lineup and has drawn interest from Europe’s biggest clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham.
Manager José Bordalás has created a system that uses suffocating defence as their foundation. Valencia’s manager Albert Celades praised Getafe’s performance, ‘Getafe has a magnificent team and when you don’t go out there to compete you are going to suffer’.
The club’s forwards have consistently scored, led by Ángel Rodríguez and his 13 goals and Juan Mata who has 10 to his name. Rodríguez, in particular, has drawn interest from Barcelona to solve their recent striker deficiency.
Sevilla has looked shaky lately, only collecting two points in their last three fixtures. They only managed to get a 2-2 draw with the ten-man Espanyol lineup. This result has disappointed pundits and fans alike because Espanyol is dead-last in the La Liga table.
According to statistics, Sevilla is the club that has lost the most points in the last 15 minutes of a match this year. Giving up 8 points so far in the later stages of their matches so far this season.
A player to watch is on-loan winger Suso. He netted his first Sevilla goal of the season in the 80th minute of the match against Espanyol, saving the match for the team who were on the way to a 2-1 loss. The loan from A.C. Milan has turned things around for the slumping Sevilla who are just a few points away from the 4th spot on the league table but has only won a single match in their last five.
Suso’s partner-in-crime, Lucas Ocampos had a good performance against Espanyol as well, scoring the second goal and assisting on Suso’s goal late into the match. His goal in the 2-2 draw is his seventh goal in the season.
The Sevilla strikers like Luuk de Jong and Munir El Haddadi will have their hands full with the notorious Getafe defence led by Dakonam and Suarez. Sevilla’s defence will also be tested by the Azulones’ consistent and dependable strikers.
