Hierro Praises Sergio Ramos

Former Real Madrid great Fernando Hierro has high praise for the squad’s captain Sergio Ramos. He was very fond of the defender’s impressive goal scoring record and it is one of the biggest factors in the team’s three-point lead in the top spot.

Madrid exploded for a 4-1 win over Osasuna with an impressive scoring rally after being down 0-1 early in the game. They scored twice in both halves en route to victory. Sergio Ramos was one of the players to hit a goal for the team in that rally.

Zinedine Zidane’s squad is now three points ahead of Barcelona for the top spot. It was one of their best comebacks since falling down to Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey’s quarter-final, where they rallied too late to come up with a win.

Ramos made history on record books as he moved past Hierro for the fifth most player to play La Liga matches. Ramos has notched 440 matches in the Spanish top flight. 39 of those matches were back in Ramos’ stint with Sevilla from 2003 to 2005 before moving to Real Madrid.

Ramos’ goal in the win marks his sixth of the season. It was one of the matches that Ramos and the team will never forget. That win marked the fifth straight for the team since entering the second half of the season.

Hierro won the La Liga title five times with the team in his career. He also led the team in winning the Champions League trophy three times back in his time. He was the club’s former all-time top goalscorer before being passed by David Silva, Fernando Torres, Raul, and David Villa.

Hierro claimed that Ramos might be the team’s greatest defender ever.

‘Sergio Ramos is absolutely remarkable’, he said in an interview. ‘Years ago we defenders had more chances to score, we'd often play in midfield. But in today's day and age, in the 21st century, Sergio is extraordinary’.

Hierro had his own comparisons when it comes to goal scoring. The Real Madrid great believes that Ramos is much better than anyone he has seen.

‘(Gerard) Pique scores quite a few goals too, but Sergio really is an anomaly’, he added. ‘His goalscoring record for Real Madrid and the national team is remarkable’.
