Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer Opens Up About Spurs Interest
RB Leipzig winger Marcel Sabitzer has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur has taken an interest in signing him. Sabitzer opens up about the potential move.
Tottenham fell out of the Champions League round of 16 to Sabitzer and Leipzig. The winger was the main reason the German side won because he scored two phenomenal goals in the match. Despite the high asking price, the Spurs are interested in acquiring his services.
This season, Sabitzer is having a career-best season, scoring 15 goals across all competitions. He is currently 26 years old which means he is entering his physical prime next season. This is why teams like Tottenham are pushing hard to acquire him for their lineups.
When asked about the floating rumours, he gave a vague response. He said, ‘Why do you think I’d answer? Football lives on rumours. And when you deliver good international games, it is normal for something like this to arise and interest to be expressed’.
Now that the Bundesliga is back, Sabitzer is focused on working hard on helping his team. He has said that amidst the transfer rumours, he is intent on helping Leipzig to a Bundesliga title victory. The winger said, ‘But now I only focus on the tasks that come and above all, I want to end the season first, that has top priority. And then let’s see how things are’.
He has admitted that he has drawn confidence from the interest that he garnered from Premier League clubs. As most people know, England’s top-flight is the most popular league in the world, and having that kind of interest shown in you is definitely a confidence boost.
He said, ‘It is definitely a confirmation of the performance you are showing. It’s good, it’s fun right now. That’s why I would have loved to continue after the Tottenham games. But I’ll keep trying as best I can’. He is also not ruling out a move away from Leipzig, saying, ‘Oh, I’m basically open to everything. I have nothing to rule out. We will see’.
If ever he makes a big decision to move to the Premier League, the Austrian star asserts that his motivation will be the league’s atmosphere and not the money he can earn there. The Bundesliga can compete on a money level with the EPL.
He said, ‘I am also doing very well financially, it is not my motivation to switch there and open a money store. I like to play for RB. But I have been able to play in England a few times, including with the national team. I was thrilled by the atmosphere in the stadium. How the spectators read the game and celebrate the individual scenes, the fans really know about football’.
