Lethal Comparison: Sadio Mane vs Ismaila Sarr
The Premier League has seen one of the best showdowns in the rarest of dates. Watford’s huge win over Liverpool to close February was definitely a match to remember. No one expected that a relegation team such as Watford would be the only team to beat Liverpool this season.
True enough, the entire world was shocked as the runaway world champions were silenced in a deafening blow by Watford at Vicarage Road in leap year day. The Hornets ended Liverpool’s 44-match unbeaten run and the Reds’ 18-game winning streak.
It was all thanks to the man who made his statement game: Ismaila Sarr. Sarr scored a brace against the Reds and assisted on Troy Deeney’s goal to cap off their 3-0 win. He single-handedly took down an entire club that was poised to match the Arsenal Invincibles.
Sarr revealed that he idolised Sadio Mane at a great level. Tracing Sarr’s origins, he looked up at Mane as one of the best players in his country. However, winning against the player he used to look up to means that Sarr is now ready for a higher level of play.
Mane has been one of Liverpool’s great weapons in the game aside from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. They are the engineers of the club’s big success this season if it wasn’t for their humiliating loss to Watford.
Mane was known for his humble nature yet lethal playstyle. He has been dangerous since the season began and his performance was one of the biggest reasons why Liverpool was able to stay ahead of the rest of the league.
Meanwhile, Ismaila Sarr has been a young player with a lot of potential. Back when the season began, the team was slumping under former coach Quique Sanchez Flores - who was then sacked and replaced by Nigel Pearson.
Pearson then utilised all of his resources and was able to tap Sarr’s potential. He was one of the productive players in his time with the team, and the brace against Liverpool was his peak performance.
No one will ever forget how Sarr won over Mane this season, and the people of Senegal would love to see another showdown between their two stars.
