Manchester United Crushes Chelsea in 2-0 Win

Manchester United edges Chelsea to come within an inch closer to the top four race as they now have 38 points in the Premier League table. Chelsea, Tottenham, Sheffield United, and Manchester United have a gap of just a point in the standings.

Chelsea had two goals ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Kurt Zouma had one before being waved off by the ruling. Olivier Giroud also had another goal in the 77th minute that could have tied the game if the first one counted.

Manchester United was slammed by a lot of people on social media. They were called ‘VARchester United’ - a cheap shot regarding the team’s reliance on the VAR to win the game.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard said that the VAR was a ‘passion killer’. He had his doubts confirmed thanks to those two goals ruled out in their loss. The team could have opened up a nine-point gap with United heading into the winter break.

Chelsea is set to play Tottenham next week, and a loss would pull them down into the fifth spot instead. The Spurs have thrived well with Jose Mourinho, and their pace is quite unquestionable thanks to their three-game winning streak right now.

Lampard says that United’s Harry Maguire should have been sent off after he shoved one of his players.

‘Harry Maguire should have been sent off I think that’s quite clear from how I saw it and that obviously changes the game’, said the Chelsea coach. ‘With the (Cesar) Azpilicueta one I think he gets shoved to then shove the player in front of him and Oli’s offside by a toenail’.

Anthony Martial scored for United in the first half with a clean shot right in the middle of the net. Maguire then came up with the shove before slotting a goal home for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad in the 66th minute.

‘It’s been a long time’, Maguire laughed in his interview right after the win. ‘Obviously, I got my first goal against Tranmere with my feet but I’ve missed a lot of chances this year and I knew it was a matter of time before I scored one’.
