Mineiro draws showdown with Palmeiras, 2-2

Atletico Mineiro has their winning streak snapped after an up and down battle in a 2-2 draw against Palmeiras. With just four games left in the 2021-22 season, the top club is pressured to keep their heads in the game as they hope to land a title.

It was an intense game from start to finish. Both clubs were on fire and they sure had a great look in their shots as well. It was a free-flowing game and neither side had the upper hand when it came to winning.

Wesley scored a goal in the 28th minute as he drew first blood for Palmeiras. The club took a 1-0 lead and tried to keep their push for most of the first half. Matias Zaracho clapped back with a goal in the 36th minute to tie the score.

It was all tied all the way to halftime. Palmeiras then came alive in the 57th minute with a goal from Deyverson. That shot gave them a 2-1 lead with still more than 40 minutes left in the match. It was an intense stretch as Hulk soon answered for Atletico in just four minutes and tied the game at 2-2.

No team scored after that. They had a lot of attempts from both sides but neither could poke a hole as they held on for a tied finish. Both sides took home a point each for the draw.

Atletico had 15 shots and five of those were on target. They held the ball for 57% and made 410 passes en route to 83% pass rate. Palmeiras, on the other hand, had 11 shots with seven close to the net. They were held to 43% on the ball and they had 315 passes for 77% pass rate.

It was so intense to the point that there were a total of 38 fouls. That shows how much effort both teams have made to try and get all three points off this game.

Mineiro’s race to the top spot is still alive, and now they have to stave off both Flamengo and Palmeiras all the way to the finish.
