Pelé Believes Messi Is the World's Most Complete Player

Brazilian soccer legend Pelé believes that Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi edges Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo as the world’s most complete soccer player.

Messi has long been known as one of the world’s best players. But with Pelé giving his opinion on the matter, it is not hard to see Messi as the world’s top player. Messi has been on top of the soccer world for the good part of two decades now, and it looks like he is not stopping anytime soon.

Pelé has said that there are three candidates for the top spot. These are Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. Pelé has also said that out of the three top players, he sees Messi as the most skilled and unselfish player of the three candidates. He has even gone on to say that if he would have had the chance, he would have loved to play with Messi on the same team.

When asked who he would choose from the trio, Pelé said, ‘I think of Leo Messi. He is a skilled player, gives assists, passes, scores, dribbles well. If we were in the team together, the opponents should worry about two players, not just one! Today, Messi is the most complete player’.

Pelé cites these three players as cultural icons for soccer in their own countries. This is evident because Messi is a cultural hero in his native Argentina, while Ronaldo gets the same treatment when he is in Portugal. On the other hand, Pelé believes that Neymar has not reached that level just yet.

He talks about how Neymar can change the perception people think of him. Pelé said, ‘I hope that at the next World Cup he is in good physical condition. People criticise him, I even did it a few times, but we forget that he is a product of ours, of Santos. We always want the best for him. I talk about him often with his father. Technically, he is an excellent player’.

It is not surprising that the legendary Pelé would recognize these three players, but when pundits and fans alike saw these quotes, they immediately questioned the absence of Kylian Mbappé.

He admits that Mbappé is a player that is extremely skilled but he thinks that there are certain qualities that Mbappé is missing. Pelé said, ‘What is missing? Not much. Maybe his heading game, the impulse and the jump. That's what makes us different again because I had a lot of momentum. I was going very high and I scored a lot of headed goals’.

It is believed that this type of praise is a massive honour for all the players that were named. Pelé is the kind of legend that manages to transcend time. The impact that he had on the game can still be felt to this day, and it will continue to make an impact in the future.
