Ryan Porteous Becomes a Shock Target for Galatasaray

Ryan Porteous has become a transfer target for Galatasaray. The centre-back is under contract until 2023 but it seems the Turkish team is willing to pay.

The Super Lig giants have inquired about the young defender’s availability but there has been no official offer given. There have also been reports that have said that multiple German clubs have done the same thing that Galatasaray did.

He has made 14 appearances for Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League this season. Porteous is not the only Scottish player who is in talks of joining a new team in the transfer window. Former Hibs striker Simon Murray has been in involved in some discussions with three other Scottish clubs after leaving the South African side Bidvest Wits.

Porteous has good potential in being a defender for any team who wants to recruit him. He is only 21 years of age and he stands at six-foot-two which is a premium quality to have especially as a defender.

Galatasaray is looking for a centre-back because their star defender Christian Luyindama is set to leave the squad in the next transfer window. He is a proper addition to the defensive scheme and he is a young prospect that they can develop as a building block for the future. They already have promising midfielders and attackers, they are going to focus on the defensive side of the ball now.

As a defender, Porteous is usually found near his own net. But in his youth days, he has shown willingness to go past the midfield and help the offence be set. He managed to score eight goals when he was a player in the Hibs youth system. This will be an additional quality that Galatasaray would be glad to have because he is a versatile player.

This season, the young Porteous has struggled with some injuries. He is working hard to get back to playing the Premiership. He wants to end the season with the team before addressing all the rumours. He said, ‘But if we are going to play the season out, I would welcome it because I worked hard to make sure it wasn’t a season-ending injury and we still have a lot to play for’.
