Sarr and Femenia's Imminent Return to Watford

Footage has been released by Watford showing injured pair Sarr and Femenia practising alongside the rest of the team.

Ever since getting sidelined due to a hamstring injury in a match against Tottenham, Ismaila Sarr has been sorely missed by the Watford side. They have lacked another strong offensive weapon on their right-wing. A dangerous assist-man, Sarr has left a hole in Watford’s chance creation, with the club only managing to notch 2 draws and 2 losses in his absence.

Club manager Nigel Pearson did not rush the Senegal right-winger back into league play in Watford’s 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Kiko Femenia, on the other hand, is nearing full fitness and is set to return soon as well. The full-back was sidelined with a hamstring injury as well in the late stages of 2019. Femenia is a reliable defender for Watford and brings depth to their defensive schemes.

The return of the duo would definitely help the club to become stronger on their right side with the Hornets fighting to avoid the league relegation spots.

With the departure of Sebastian Prodl, Femenia’s services are sorely needed to improve their defence. Pearson believes that the winter break was very much needed to recharge the players for the club’s push to avoid relegation.

‘I think the players maybe are ready for a few days, good for them. Let them recharge, refocus and come back ready to go all again and that’s what it is’.

‘People sometimes want to talk about how things change when you suffer a couple of setbacks and whether there’s a shift in how people are but for me, I always thought that we might get some setbacks that we’ve got to deal with’. The draw against Brighton was unfortunate, but Pearson is confident in his players’ ability to get the club out of the relegation spots.

With an important match against former Watford ace Odion Ighalo and Manchester United on the horizon, the club’s winter break came at the right time, giving them ample time to prepare against the Premier League titan.

When they last played against Manchester United, Watford scored 2 goals en route to a massive victory. Sarr scored a goal early in the second half in that game.

Sarr was signed to a Watford club-record deal of £32.3m in the past summer. He previously played for Ligue 1 clubs Metz and Rennes before transferring to Watford. Before he signed with Rennes in 2017, he even garnered attention from Spanish giant FC Barcelona to the point he got offered a deal that he refused.

He refused to transfer to Barcelona because he wanted to have playing time and a chance to prove himself. ‘I was told there were two offers: Rennes and Barcelona. I wanted to go to a club where I would play, so I decided to go to Rennes because I thought that by going to Barcelona, I would not have been in the first-team’.

Sarr has been successful in his time with the club, drawing praise from manager Pearson. He has scored 3 goals in his brief time with Watford and has become a centrepiece in the club’s plans moving forward.

Femenia signed with Watford in 2017 on a four-year deal. He has become a consistent fixture in Watford’s lineup through the years and he has managed to score goals in each of the past seasons. He had experience in many Spanish teams including titans Barcelona and Real Madrid’s secondary clubs.

With the pair practising alongside their team, they are sure to return any time soon.
