The Netherlands gets a comfortable win over North Macedonia
The Netherlands proved they are a team that should not be underestimated because they took care of their business by winning 3-0 over North Macedonia. The goal scorers were recent Barça and Paris SG signings.
It was a fantastic game from the Dutch side because they made sure that they won the game. While NM is always the underdog, they can surprise people with their energy when they play. Some teams fall victim to the underdog trap but the Dutch team did not want that kind of collapse to happen.
The Dutch side also proved why they’re known as one of the most entertaining teams in the European Championships. They are the only team with three different players who have scored two goals or more. They also have an unbeaten 3-0 record which puts them on the same level as group leaders like Belgium and Italy.
A reality check for North Macedonia
While North Macedonia pulled off a great run when they qualified for the event, they had a reality check with three losses in Group C. However, this should serve as a big lesson as well because the three teams that they played with are all solid and deserve respect.
They fought tooth and nail for this opportunity and they’ve learned that North Macedonia has the potential to play on a similar level soon. They can surprise everyone and turn into a strong team. Of course, they are a smaller country which is why they don’t have the same talent level that other teams have. However, if they work hard, they can reach the same heights.
Their captain Goran Pandev announced his retirement from his international career which should be an encouraging sight for some younger players to follow in his footsteps. The now-former captain said, ‘This generation can bring the nation plenty of joy in the future, and I believe they are capable of qualifying for the World Cup’.
The Dutch are the lowkey titans of the event
As Belgium and Italy draw headlines for their group stage runs, the Dutch side does not get the same attention. They were also unbeaten but they are still under the radar. That’s good for the mindset of the players because they can use it to fuel their motivation in the main stage.
Team head coach Frank de Boer talked about where he feels the team is at now. He said, ‘I think it was very whirlwind at times today. We have made progress in all aspects and I am very positive. We are in good shape’.
The Dutch will be a strong team moving forward. They have boundless potential and a big chance of winning the trophy this time around.
