Why Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane is the best forward duo
In England’s European Championships run, it’s evident their forward duo of Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane have been their linchpins for the Three Lions’ success. Let’s dive into how Sterling and Kane have proven they’re the best forward duo in the event.
Both stars have held the top-scorer role for England in this event and their chemistry shines through. Back in the day, some people talked about possible tension between the two stars. During the latest World Cup, Kane squandered an easy chance and he didn’t pass to Sterling in the semi-final against Croatia.
It looks like both players have learned their lesson when playing with each other because they have unreal chemistry. They have passed the ball well to each other and have turned themselves into a formidable duo who can do anything in the final third. Sterling usually drives the ball into the box and then Kane is the recipient of precise passes from the Manchester City winger.
These two players are well-known for their ability to get into the final third whether they have the ball or not. Sterling is one of the quickest forwards in the world and he has an uncanny ability to make the right runs while staying onside. Sterling has done this almost every game in the European Championships and he has either scored a goal or made the right pass for his teammate to score a goal.
Kane himself is not only a pure striker who can score goals every time he receives the ball. He has adapted well to the modern era and he became an elite passer as well. He started this improvement during the 2020-21 season with Tottenham Hotspur where he and Son Heung-min were the best duo in the EPL.
With a similar left-winger who loves to play with pace, Kane has improved with Sterling as his main running mate. Kane is not just a pure target man because he is also a playmaker who deserves the respect for being a well-rounded star.
Both of these stars deserve the attention they’re getting for the excellent play they’ve shown so far. It will be up to them if they can do it against Italy since they’re set for a final against the Robert Mancini-coached team.
Can England win the title with Sterling and Kane as their stars?
Gareth Southgate and his men have proven they’re a top side in the event. Italy is the favourite to win it all but England has made a case for the title and they will do their best to keep up with Mancini, Lorenzo Insigne, and the rest of the Italian team.
Sterling and Kane are the cornerstones of the England squad but you should not forget the rest of the team. Kalvin Phillips has emerged as one of the rising stars of the England squad alongside his midfield partner Mason Mount. Both of these players’ aggression has helped Sterling and Kane because they’re good fits for the pressing defence Southgate likes to use.
Jordan Pickford also deserves more credit because he has been the player of the tournament for England after Sterling and Kane. It will be one of the most exciting finals in a long while since both teams will love to play energetic football. England will play at a slower pace but you can expect Sterling and Kane to use their speed advantage over the wily veteran defenders of the Italian squad.
