2020 Global StarCraft II League: Code S’ Top Eight Is Set
The Code S Round of 16 has concluded with Group D’s matches. Lee ‘INnoVation’ Shin Hyung was the star of the round managing to dominate his opponents.
Before the tournament began, INnoVation was declaring that he was the favourite and he was the inevitable champion of the entire tourney. He was a part of the ‘group of death’ that include players like Cho ‘Maru’ Seong Ju, Shin ‘RagnaroK’ Hee Bum and Joo ‘Zest’ Sung Wook.
INnoVation performed phenomenally in the round, managing to open up with a fake two-base timing against Zest which left him dumbfounded. It was a genius play, managing to make a move that took up limited resources but had the maximum effect. This led to INnoVation using his superior economy to secure the 2-0 win for himself. This was an easy 2-0 victory for INnoVation, managing to back up his statements of being the uncrowned winner.
In the winner’s match, INnoVation went up against Maru. This was his signature victory, managing to withstand Maru’s first onslaught in the early game, and he went to come back from a deficit. He was on the ropes, but in his typical INnoVation fashion, he came back swinging and took the victory in the first game.
In the second game, he once again employed another unique strategy. He used a two-Starport Battlecruiser rush which is considered an ‘oddball’ move but it worked to his advantage. It may have looked like an unusual strategy but he managed to show his game IQ. He managed to devise a plan that worked well because it was a bad matchup for Maru.
Even Maru had to take humour from his loss because he was ‘cheesed’ in the second game. He did not hold his head down because he had to go against RagnaroK in the losers’ bracket final. RagnaroK had a good series, performing admirably against Maru.
This was a straight-forward match but RagnaroK impressed the spectators. He had a clear-cut strategy of macro-control but it was Maru had a methodical approach to the series which led him to the victory and he advanced to the Round of Eight in second place in the group of death.
