Hursey steps up on day 1 of ETTC
Table tennis is not a difficult game for many players, but with Anna Hursey, she makes it look like a child’s game. At the age of 15, the young star shocked the rest of the world as she rose as one of the big winners to open up the European Table Tennis Championships.
The ETTC is one of the most intense leagues in the sport. As tough as the game should be, there are a lot of players who give their best in this competition only to fall short and some even fail to win.
Hursey’s run to open up her games is like a slap to other players. She plays with all her heart and she does all she can to win games. Hursey sets the standard for players to follow, and she isn’t even in her prime yet.
The Welsh star proved to be a big pick in the competition and she has a lot of work to do to keep that going. She is on her way to get a shot at the main singles draw, and it looks like she can keep that hot streak alive.
Hursey was in good form as of late, and it showed off in her game. She just aced two World Table Tennis (WTT) youth events and blasted off in her win over 35th seed Maria Yovkova. Hursey was behind by 41 places, and yet won the game in three sets at 11-3, 11-8 and 11-6.
It looked like a bad day for Yovkova after that. She even lost her next game to Prithika Pavade in 11-5, 7-11, 11-9 and 11-8.
Hursey has worked hard to reach where she is today. Aside from being a table tennis icon, Hursey has also helped a lot of causes this year, one of which is US President Joe Biden’s campaign for climate change.
The star is the first and only young athlete to play for Wales in any senior sport. Hursey uses her position in the sport to help and speak out on social issues. At the same time, she thrives in table tennis, so she puts up the standard and hype for many players today.
Hursey might just be the best player in the coming years. All players who are seeing her play today are witnesses to her growth as a star. After all, she still has a lot of years ahead of her, so her wins today are just big steps towards the top.
The Welsh icon is here to play at the top of her game. Hursey is sure to give her best to prove to the rest of the world that she is ready to be the next big name in the sport she loves the most.
