Alcaraz unfazed by Nadal comparisons
Carlos Alcaraz is on the rise and a lot of tennis players and fans have taken notice of him. He’s been at his best so far and this is why others even compare him to the great Rafael Nadal. However, the young star stays focused on his goals to be the best version of his own.
At the age of 18, Carlos has stirred up the tennis world so much and he has claimed his first ATP Tour title. He defeated Richard Gasquet, who was one of the best teen stars back then, in the final of the Croatia Open in Umag.
The young Spaniard has drawn comparison with Nadal, who has made the same feat of being a champ at the age of 18 (just eight days younger) when he won at Sopot in 2004. Carlos is seen as one of the best young stars on the rise and he is keen to keep on winning more games.
Carlos even went on to diss all of the talks about him and Nadal being almost the same. He wants to keep his mind in the game and make sure he gives all he got in every match he plays.
‘I try not to think about that’, the young star said. ‘I say always the same – I’m focused on my path. I’m still learning, still growing up, still being friendly with everyone and am still focused on my path’.
Carlos is still far from his prime and has a lot of years to play before he could get to the same level as Nadal. Carlos has looked up to the big three of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Nadal when he was still a kid.
They inspired him to play tennis, and now he is chasing them.
‘I grew up watching them winning tournaments, winning Grand Slams and I think they’re three of the best in history’, he said. ‘For me, it’s amazing to play against them on the same circuit. I’m a lucky guy to learn from them’.
Carlos has a lot of work to do. He wants to get into the top ranks of the ATP Tour, and this means more wins to come.
