Cervara praises Medvedev’s success
Despite his loss in the ATP Finals to Alexander Zverev, Gilles Cervara still has a lot of praise for Daniil Medvedev and his successful run in the 2021 ATP Tour. That means a lot for the Russian star who made an effort to win against the best players in the world.
The 2021 ATP Tour is surely one of the best seasons to remember for Daniil. After all, the Russian star won his first major title at the US Open. He beat world no. 1 Novak Djokovic in the final when the latter had a quest to win all of the Grand Slams.
On top of that, the star has claimed the world no. 2 spot in the ATP Rankings. Beating the world no. 1 in four of nine sets is such a huge feat and they missed their chance in the ATP Finals when they both lost to Zverev.
For Daniil’s coach, it is all about moving to the next level and a full display of strong performance in the star’s games. Gilles says he does not see any different from the star aside from his continuous growth.
‘I didn’t see any difference in anything right now. We try to do the same, to try to do the best all the time. That’s our goal. It helps you to try to keep focussing on the performance’, the coach said. ‘When I say performance, it’s all the things around tennis: the physical side, mental side, the things we can still improve. There are a lot of things to improve all the time’.
The good side is that they don’t feel that winning is going to change a lot for them. Daniil is getting grittier and so far, there are a lot of wins for the Russian star to keep track of.
The coach also believes that Daniil has shown the best part of his games so far, proving that there is still more to expect from him in the long run. After all, Daniil is still yet to enter his prime, which proves his growth on display at an early age.
Gilles also praised Daniil’s resilience in his games. The star has been a strong force in the ATP tour in 2021. Daniil plays every match like it is his last, and that works well for the team at this point in time.
Daniil still has a long way to go in his career, and Gilles will always be there to help him every step of the way. He is one of the reasons why the Russian star is playing at the top of his games in the ATP Tour, and no one could even ask for more.
