Lorenzo Musetti wants to have a Roger Federer-esque career
Lorenzo Musetti is one of the best rising stars on the ATP Tour at just 19 years of age. He wants to have a professional career like his idol, Roger Federer. He had strong performances in Acapulco, Lyon, and a stellar run to the French Open’s round of 16.
Even if he is a rising star, Musetti has suffered some bad losses in 2021. Before winning his first match at the US Open, he was on a six-match losing streak. He had a bad period because he had personal issues and consulted a psychologist to help him have a better mindset while playing big events.
The young Musetti had a strong performance in big events like the French Open where he faced Novak Djokovic in the RO16. Musetti was actually ahead by two sets but he had to retire from the game due to an injury.
He cites Nole as the deserving winner of the event and the youngster said that Nole also deserved the US Open but Daniil Medvedev stopped him in the final.
2021 has been a rollercoaster ride for Musetti and the downward trajectory he has experienced in the second half of the year has been tough. However, he knows that he has enough skills to compete on the same level as the top players he idolized.
The youngster said, ‘My sporting role model for sure is Roger Federer. I study him and I'm a huge fan of him. I really want to be like him in everything, on and off the court’.
It will be a tough road ahead for Musetti because you can expect that he will be scouted by his opponents. He can’t catch anyone by surprise anymore which is why he needs to compete at a higher level. Focusing on his mindset is a good move because he is still young and there are times he can appear frustrated.
If Musetti can perform at the highest level possible, you can expect him to try and emulate Fed’s style. The 19-year-old has boundless potential and playing like Fed should be a good sign because Musetti is prepared to take the ATP Tour by storm with his skills.
