Paul looks back in his win against Rublev

Tommy Paul had a blast in his win against Andrey Rublev. The American found a strong stroke in his win against the Russian, and he cruised past him like it was just another practice session. This win was a huge boost for Paul’s slow rise in the ATP Tour.

In the third round of the BNP Paribas Open, Paul scored a win against the fourth seed Rublev. He did not panic in his games because he was ready and did not even hold back to bring the best of his plays in this match. This is one of the biggest wins he ever had in his career.

For the first time in his run at an ATP Masters 1000 event, Paul came back strong to beat Rublev in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, and 7-5. That is his first win against Rublev as well, so it is a great run for him so far.

‘I was mad that I didn’t hold and win the match, but I wasn’t too upset to be out there a little longer’, Paul said. ‘It was so much fun every changeover having the people scream your name and get loud. For a second I literally just closed my eyes and I was just like soaking it in before that last game’.

It was unreal for Paul, but he shined bright in that big win as well.

Paul also said that there was a lot of hype in the game and every fan in the stadium was glad about the way he played. He believes it is a feeling he can’t ignore and just loves how they cheered for him too.

‘You get up and you’re about to return or you’re about to play a game and you hear everyone, the energy coming from everybody’, Paul said. ‘It’s just hard not to feel it coming into your body. It’s a good feeling. It’s almost like an adrenaline from people, just energy from people’.

Just 15 minutes after the match point, Paul still had a big smile on his face. He is pleased to earn his first win against a player in the top five, and he had a lot of fun in the game.
