Canada secures second win in a row
Canada women’s volleyball team claimed their second win in a row at the Volleyball Nations League. The team bested Germany in just three sets en route to a 3-0 win. It seems the Canadian squad is eager to keep on winning games down the stretch.
Canada did not have a problem in closing out Germany but was locked in three tight sets to win the contest. The first two sets were decided by 30-28 and 27-25 before the team found their groove and routed the Germany team by 25-14 in the deciding set.
This win follows Canada’s first win in the Nations League, which was a five-set affair with China that ended 3-2. They are building off a huge momentum in the game and it looks like they can keep this going for the next stretch of games as well.
Canada had to stay gritty as Germany forced an extended set in the first before they were able to get up by 29-28. The team then scored an ace to wrap up the set and they were able to rest for a while after that.
Germany was in the zone for the second set. They grabbed a huge lead to start off this one but Canada was able to respond right away and took over at the 20-point mark. Germany kept it close but could not hold on as Canada escaped with a 27-25 win.
Canada’s Jennifer Cross led the charge in the third and final set, where Canada routed Germany for a blazing 25-14 win. There wasn’t much response from the Germans in that set.
‘We are so excited and so pumped that I feel like we could go and play another game’, said Cross. ‘The last two days have been amazing and it's been a long way to get here, but I feel like all the pieces are coming together for our team’.
The Canadian women are off until Sunday, where they are set to play against Poland. The latter is one of the leading teams in the Nations League. It will surely be a much more intense game between the two sides heading to the crucial match-up that will surely rock many fans this time around.
