Cherif and Ahmed wants to be the best duo in the world
The Cancun Bubble has seen Anders Mol and Christian Sørum emerge as consistent winners. However, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan won the third and final event of the bubble. It was a big upset considering almost all of the top duos in beach volleyball were playing.
Of course, some duos were missing including Julius Thole and Clemens Wickler. Due to the absence of some big duos, other teams stepped up with the likes of Cherif and Ahmed headlining the event.
They are making a case to be known as the second-best team in the world just behind Mol and Sørum. Cherif and Ahmed lost in the first two finals of the surprising bubble. The third time was the charm for the Qatari duo as they finally won the event after beating Russia’s Konstantin Semenov and Ilya Leshukov on the 3rd of May.
A few months ago, Cherif and Ahmed did not make it far in events. Over 2021, the Qatar duo has been performing at a high level and they are looking forward to the future as they can keep this momentum up. It will be tough to stop them when they’re playing better as they have limitless potential.
Cherif talked about how big the win is for their country and duo.
‘We trust the process’, he said. ‘We know it’s a long process, so we just tried to focus on our play each game and we are really thankful to be here with the gold. It’s been so long, three weeks, and we’re tired, but we just tried to keep our focus as high as we could’.
On the other hand, Tijan echoed his sentiments and he also gave a thankful message as they know that people supported them especially during their three runs to the finals. They only won one but you can see why they value this medal so much.
The men’s beach volleyball scene has grown well over the years and there are new contenders in the scene today.
