Louisville remains the only unbeaten college volleyball team
With Baylor University’s win over top-ranked University of Texas in Week 11, the University of Louisville is the only collegiate volleyball team in the United States with a spotless record. They have a 23-0 record after their latest win against the University of North Carolina.
The match against UNC was a tough game for both teams as the Tar Heels won the first set. Louisville managed to come back and win three straight sets to take the win and keep a clean record. The Cardinals’ morale is very high at the moment and it will be difficult to bring them back down to earth.
They have made some strong strides over the past few months as they continue to build on their momentum. Ever since the Cards pulled off an upset against Texas in the 2019 NCAA tournament, Louisville’s volleyball program has gone from underdogs to a legitimate top-five team in the country. This is mostly due to the Cards retaining most of the 2019 squad with Tori Dilfer orchestrating the offence.
Dilfer is not the only star on the team because Anna Stevenson, Aiko Jones, Claire Chaussee, and Amaya Tillman are all reliable players. Tillman herself is one of the best blockers in the country as she is ranked highly in blocks per set. These veterans are strong but Anna DeBeer is also a standout player since she always finds a way to score points.
The Cards are not only a strong team on the offensive end but they are also a fortress on defence. Tillman is the headliner but you should also expect the rest of the team to keep up. They have some walls in the frontline but you can expect every player on the court to dive for receptions and digs.
The game against the Tar Heels was a sign of what’s to come for the Cards. Even if they are down, you can expect them to fight back and win. That is the characteristic of a championship team. If the Cards can keep this up, it will be hard to deny their title hopes moving forward.
