Spain prospect Santi Aldama is entering the NBA Draft
Spaniard Santi Aldama has announced that he intends to join the 2021 NBA Draft. He was a solid piece for Loyola Maryland where he averaged 20 ppg. He is a player who is hyped up as the next Spanish star dating back to his FIBA U18 European Championship MVP run in 2019.
Loyola Maryland is a mid-major program as they only compete in the Patriot League. Mid-major players are not typically seen as star-level talents. However, some stars have broken out of programs like this with the likes of Portland Trail Blazers duo Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum as the prime examples.
Aldama was drawn to the school as it gave him the chance to show his basketball skills but also a solid business career with a degree. That was a two-pronged decision that was influenced by his father.
This came as a surprise to many pundits as Santi is a four-star recruit. After two seasons with Loyola, he is finally moving on to the NBA where pundits feel that he will be a steal in the draft.

Santi will be a solid pickup for any NBA team. He is a 6’11 forward who can play as a big man but he can also stretch the floor. That kind of shooting from the perimeter is crucial to a place on any NBA team nowadays with its focus on shooting. Despite his tall frame, Santi can also dribble the ball which is important since NBA defences love to pressure big man who can’t handle the ball.
Santi himself is confident that he will find a solid place in the NBA. He said, ‘I think NBA teams learned that about me, watching me every night doing all the different things I can do with my versatility. How I’ve gotten bigger and stronger and more consistent with my shot. The main thing for me to stay in the NBA draft is feeling that teams have a real interest in me and would like me to be a part of their team’.
It will be interesting to see how he will fare in the draft as he is a raw prospect but he has tons of potential as a rotational big.
